Sleep apnea is a serious medical disorder which is characterized by short pauses in breathing while a person sleeps. These pauses repeat frequently and cause the oxygen in blood to drop which awakens the brain from sleep.
The sufferer does not usually remember these awakenings but notices the effect the following morning.
There are different kinds of sleep apnea:

Four percent of middle-aged men and 2 percent of middle-aged women have been documented to have sleep apnea. People who develop sleep apnea are most likely to be the ones who snore loudly, are overweight, have high blood pressure, have some physical abnormality in the nose, throat, or other parts of the upper airway. Sleep apnea seems to run in some families, suggesting a possible genetic basis.
Sleep Apnea sufferer may have nocturnal Symptoms such as snoring, waking up with choking sensation, witnessed pauses in breathing, frequent visits to the bathroom, excess sweating, acid reflux and sexual dysfunction. Some of the daytime symptoms include morning headaches, feeling tired upon awakening, waking up with dry mouth, feeling excessively sleepy or tired during the day and having difficulty concentrating or work or school.
